OUR ADOPTION PROCEDURE
If you are thinking of adopting an animal, please note that it is the policy
of this animal shelter that the procedure should be as follows:
- You complete an application form
at the shelter (please note we cannot send you a form it needs to be completed
here). You will be welcome to visit the kennels
and view the animals that are awaiting adoption. However, we regret that no
interest can be noted until after
a home-visit.
- An appointment will be made for our representative home-visitor to visit
your home.
- You return to the kennels to express an interest in a
dog and following the dogs assessment period you may then reserve it.
- The adoption fee for each animal will range from
£80 to £150 for a dog
£60 to £70 for a cat/kitten
These prices include:
Worming fees, at least the first vaccination, neutering charge, identity
chipping for dogs and cats.
After adoption, a further home-visit will be arranged to ensure that the
animal and the new owner are happy with each other.

‘Lucky’ to be alive'
A dog who
survived a suspected fall from a flat balcony is now looking for a new home
after being nursed back to health by the RSPCA.
Lucky, a Staffordshire bull
terrier believed to be around three years old, was found next to a block of
flats suffering from major trauma, including internal bleeding and a fractured
leg.
Due to the extent of his
injuries, it is thought that he must have fallen from a flat balcony, however as
there were no witnesses and no one has ever come forward to claim Lucky, the
exact cause may never be known.
He was taken to the RSPCA
Putney Animal Hospital in south-west London where he has made remarkable
progress, thanks to the expert care that he has received.
Nurse Marianne Segev said: "At several points in time we really didn't
think Lucky would survive having lost so much blood and reaching near fatal
levels of anaemia.”
Lucky now
looking for loving, new home
Despite having the odds
against him, Lucky is recovering well and has now been transferred into the care
of the RSPCA Brighton Animal Centre in Patcham, East Sussex, where he will stay
while he waits to be rehomed.
He still needs care and rest
while his fracture repair heals, but most of all he needs a kind and patient
owner. Lucky has an amazing temperament and is a
very gentle and affectionate dog, despite what he's been through.
He loves people and receiving praise and attention, especially belly
rubs, and he has boundless amounts of energy, something his new owner will need
to be able to keep up with!
He gets on well with other
dogs, but it is not yet known how he is with cats. It's also best that Lucky is
rehomed with older children as he is still in recovery.

CAN YOU HELP WITH AN
ELDERLY OR DISABLED CAT? OR A CAT THAT MUST LIVE IN A FLAT?
Sometimes older cats or cats with special needs find
themselves at our shelter. We are always looking for special homes for
these cats. A large majority of these cats would be suitable to live
indoors i.e. in a flat.
If you would consider offering a home please give your
details to a member of the cattery staff. We are compiling a list so that
when these cats come in they do not have to stay here for months while they are
looking for a home.
Please come in and talk to the cattery staff, if you have
been passed for a flat cat.
