Welcome to the RSPCA Sussex, Brighton & East Grinstead
The Sussex Brighton and East Grinstead Branch of the RSPCA is entirely self-funding, and is run by an active committee of volunteers who are trustees of the Branch funds. The Branch is responsible for the Brighton Animal Shelter at Patcham.
Over 3000 animals are cared for at the Shelter each year, including dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, reptiles, foxes, badgers, hedgehogs, chickens, ferrets and various birds, both wild and domestic. Facilities are available for almost every animal until it is ready for re-homing or release.
The RSPCA licence permits us to have a maximum of 112 dogs and 84 cats on site plus numerous other animals. We have a non-destruction policy, and aim to find suitable, caring and permanent homes for all the domestic animals brought into the Shelter. There are always dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals in need of good and loving homes. Why not visit the Shelter? We are open every day except Monday, from 10.30a.m. until 4.00 p.m.
Over the last few years we have been able to take hundreds of dogs and cats from other areas in need, including Ireland, Liverpool, London and Slough, and dog pounds throughout the UK, and re-home them locally. Many of these animals would have been put to sleep if we had not been able to help.
A subsidised neutering scheme for cats and female dogs is offered to people on low incomes.
Microchipping for dogs and cats is available at only £10.
We rely on volunteers for many activities, such as dog walking, home-visiting, animal care work, fund-raising and pet food collection.
We need over £400,000 a year to keep the Shelter running, and we desperately need your support to continue to provide care for animals in need.
